Gor Mahia is renowned for its loyal supporters who spice up their Kenya Premier League matches with antics and chants but are at times rowdy and chaotic.

Traditionally Gor Mahia fans were largely drawn from Nyanza but lately, the fanbase has grown with supporters all over the country.

The fans, popularly known as the ‘Green Army’ travel in numbers to follow up on their team’s fixtures. However, according to the club,s Secretary General Sam Ocholla the fans have not been turning up in numbers to support the club.

“The problem with Gor Mahia fans is that they make so much noise and contribute almost nothing to the club. They do not come to watch football matches .

“The club barely collects ksh50,000 as stadium ticket sales, they do not buy club merchandise but they will make noise when the club is not performing,” Sam Ocholla noted.

The SG has urged the fans to stop attacking the management in everything they do as it does not help the club in any way.

Ocholla also noted that the fans are not registering as club members, as compared to other east African clubs like Simba and Yanga, both from Tanzania.

The club's SG also added that Gor was planning a big match with a famous international club which will attract many fans across the country.

"We have asked for a friendly match with international team. I hope it will help kickstart the coming of fans to the stadium."

He also highlighted that the club is seeking to bounce back through the new changes in their technical bench after the appointment of Andreas Spier as their new manager.

The German will be assisted by Michael Nam as the assistant coach and Boniface Oluoch as the goalkeeping coach.

The new coach is expected to work with the current squad which is incorporated with a variety of youth talent as they are facing a transfer ban.

Ocholla believes that if the club continue winning their matches they will soon be heading the league table.

“If now we change and start winning we should be at the top of the table within the next two or three games,” Ocholla stated.
