Former AC Milan and Inter Milan star, Sulley Aliu Muntari, has revealed that his son played a part in his move to Ghanaian side Hearts of Oak.
Muntari joined Hearts of Oak this week after a two-year hiatus, where he started that part of the reason for him returning to football is for his son to see him play.
According to Muntari, his son Jamal inspired him to join the Ghana Premier League title holders.
"During my stay in Ghana, I have been training with Hearts of Oak. I met Dr. Tamakloe, the President himself, Afede and many of his musketeers. Some of the players too, I ’ve met them.
"It was not a hard decision to make but the driver was my son who asked me to start playing because he wants to come to the colosseum and watch me play and I said‘ okay’. Since the fellowship with Hearts was there long ahead, it was easy, veritably easy for me to choose,” Muntari noted.
The 37-year-old could make his debut for Hearts of Oak in the game against Great Olympics on Sunday, Febraury 6. He follows in the steps of Ghana's legendary striker Asamoah Gyan to return home as he approached retirement.
Muntari also makes a return to competitive football for the first time since 2019. After leaving Spanish lower division club Albacete, the midfielder spent the last two years without a club, casting doubts over his fitness.
Muntari has joined Hearts with lots of experience after playing at two World Cup events for Ghana, featuring at multiple Africa Cup of Nations and winning the Uefa Champions League with Inter Milan.
The 37-year-old star started his career at Udinese in Serie A, but he quickly made a successful move to the Premier League, where he played for Portsmouth.
In only one year in England, Muntari won the FA Cup, before returning to Italy to play for Inter Milan.
