Senegal and Chelsea's goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has had one of the unimaginable success stories in the world of football.

Since joining Chelsea from Rennes in September 2020, Mendy has advanced from unknown to unstoppable top stopper, winning the Champions League and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in a span of 253 days.

Mendy back in 2014 after being let go by former side Cherbourg, was claiming benefits from the French government.

Between 2014 and 2015 Mendy did not play a single game of football, starting the downfall of his career as a professional footballer.

However, Mendy was allowed to train again with his first club Le Havre and was soon picked up by Marseille, where he played for the second team, before joining League 2 side Reims.

Mendy spent three years at Reims before making a move to Rennes. After just one season at Rennes, he joined English side Chelsea.

At the end of his first season with Chelsea, Mendy became a star in world football, keeping clean sheets and amazing saves.

Within 50 appearances with the Blues, Mendy was able to win the Champions League. He also took the title of UEFA Goalkeeper of the year.

Recently Edouard Mendy made a pivotal penalty save to help Senegal win the Africa Cup of Nations over Egypt on February 6.

Senegal won 4-2 on penalties. This adds yet another accolade to Mendy’s collection in what has been an emotional time for the goalkeeper.

The Senegalese added to his accolade also the Best goalkeeper at AFCON 2021 with him previously winning an award as the best goalkeeper in the world for 2021 by FIFA.
