Arguably the most nervous moment in a football match is when a player steps up to take a penalty.
Over the years many have fallen victim to abuse, discrimination and also psychological torture after failing to score vital penalties for their teams.
For one to take a penalty it is believed that they should be ready to maintain their calm rather than succumbing to the pressure that comes with it.
In the recent past, only Yaya Toure has been able to have a 100 per cent record on the spot with him converting 15 out of 15.
He accomplished this during his eight years at Manchester City with 11 coming through the league games, three in the domestic cup competition and one for his national side.
As he left Manchester City Yaya was the only player to have taken at least 10 penalties and not missed one, having a success ratio of 100 per cent.
Toure in his career only took competitive spot-kicks in normal time for Manchester City with his last goal from the spot coming against West Ham United in February 2017. The first penalty that Yaya took was for Ivory Coast in a 4-2 win at Tanzania in June 2013.
Before he left Manchester City the prolific midfielder highlighted what he does to make sure he scores his penalties.
“When I place the ball on the spot, I look away from the goalkeeper to avoid the goalkeeper from knowing where I want to place the ball, before I hit the ball, I always have one eye on the goalkeeper as I watch his movement before putting the ball in the net,” Yaya explained.
