
Eldoret City Marathon is the highest paying marathon in Africa with both men and women winners taking home ksh3.5 million (USD 35,000).
Athletes who finish the race as top 20 also get financial rewards with the race organizers having put measures in place to ensure the race attains global standards.
In 2021 the race was ranked by Abbott World Marathon Majors as the only racing event in Kenya that is recognised by the marathon body.
With the race is set to take place on April 10, the organisers have been urging locals to register for the fourth edition.

This year's edition will be timed electronically to enhance accuracy in posting time taken by the participating athletes to cross the finish line.
In the 2021 edition, Mercy Kipchumba and Victor Kipchirchir won the 42km race.Kipchirchir set a new course record after clocking two hours, eight minutes and 54 seconds [02:08:54].
Moses Tanui is the brain behind the race after he was tasked to take charge of the subcommittee in-charge of introducing electronic timing.
Tanui is a retired athlete having been the 1991 10,000m World Champion with victories in the 1996 and 1998 road race editions of the Boston Marathon
He was also the winner in Vienna 2002 after finishing second and third in the 1999 and 2000 Chicago road race editions.
