Cheboilei, Chepkemoi Win Agnes Tirop Memorial World Cross Country Tour

Kenyan duo top both men and women races in the just concluded inaugural Agnes Tirop Memorial World Cross Country Tour. 

Samuel Chebolei and Joyce Chepkemoi repeated their successful national performances after winning their respective races at the event. 

In the men’s race, Chebolei finished with a time of 29 minutes and 47 seconds as Nicholas Kimeli and Michael Kibet finished second and third respectively. 

Kimeli scooped the silver medal with a time of 30 minutes and 01 seconds as Kibet settled for bronze with a time of 30 minutes and 11 seconds.  

“My aim was to wait for the last two laps for me to make the final push and I am glad my efforts paid off,” Chebolei stated after the race. 

In the women’s race, Chepkemoi emerged victorious, clocking 34 minutes and 2 seconds. 

Fellow compatriots Chelimo and Jepleting finished in second and third with 34 minutes, 9 secs and 34 minutes and 22 seconds respectively. 

“The win brings great joy to my heart for it is in honour of Agnes Tirop, she was really a good person,” added Chepkemoi. 

In other races that took place, Shadrack Chirchir topped the Under 20s 8km race as Purity Chepkirui topped in the U20s 6km race. 

In the Under 18s categories Ismael Kurui and Joyline Chekemoi took up the honours in the 8km and 6km races respectively.
