New Zealand’s Meikayla Moore was on target on the wrong end of the pitch three times as her country lost 5-0 to the United States Women Soccer Team.

Moore professionally turns out for Liverpool Women in England.

Interestingly, all the three own goals came in the first half of the She Believes Cup match. The four-team tournament also comprises Iceland and the Czech Republic.

Moore’s woes started in the fourth minute when she diverted a left-wing cross with her right foot into the back of the net.

Her troubles deepened just a minute later when a right-wing cross she did not anticipate would get to her bounced off her forehead and into the back of her own net.

The third own goal came in the 35th minute when Moore turned in a low cross from the right flank in bizarre fashion.

With her morale taking a nosedive, The Ferns coach Jitka Klimková had to haul her off in the 40th minute to save her face.

“Obviously, she’s sad and disappointed, but she’s an unbelievable person and player who belongs to this team. We are all behind her in this tough moment for her,” Klimkova stated after the match.

Moore, who was making her fiftieth appearance for the team, is not the first to have such a tough time in a match.

In 2013, former Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters turned in two own goals as they lost 4-0 to Chelsea. Walters even got his penalty saved by Petr Čech, a bad outing in office indeed.

Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher also scored two own goals in an English Premier League match against Manchester United in 1999.
