Mane to Donate Prestigious 2019 Award to Senegal

Senegal and Liverpool forward, Sadio Mané, will place his 2019 Africa Player of the Year Award in the Papa Bouba Diop Museum inside the newly-built Abdoulaye Wade stadium.  

The new Papa Bouba Diop Museum, which is located at the new stadium, was built in honour of the late Senegal star Papa Diof. 

During the inauguration of the new stadium, the President of Senegal Macky Sall disclosed that Mané will place his award in the museum.

“Sadio Mané put his Ballon d'Or trophy in the Pape Bouba Diop museum,” the President stated. 

In 2019, the Liverpool star was named Africa's best player after leading Senegal to the AFCON 2019 final and having an outstanding season with Liverpool. 

Papa Bouba Diof was the first player to score for Senegal at the world cup but passed away in 2020. 

Diof is remembered for his goal against France at the World Cup 2002 that saw Senegal defeat France. 

The newly established Abdoulaye Wade stadium was unveiled after Senegal’s successful campaign at the AFCON. 

The name of the stadium was also revealed by the President in commemoration of the former Head of State, Abdoulaye Wade. 

The host for Senegal international new state of the art stadium will be the home to all of Senegal's international games, with its first official fixture being between Senegal and Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers.
