World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has revealed that away from the track, he also participates in a multimillion side hustle.

Kipchoge who is known for his humility despite making huge sums of cash, told a local publication, Smart Harvest that he also does farming where he concentrates on both dairy and tea farming.

The 37 year old marathoner hopes to take his farming to the next level. His wife is the general manager at the dairy farm.

“Being the farm’s general manager, my wife is very keen on cleanliness in the dairy unit. She ensures that the place is cleaned twice a day; morning and evening, to keep flies and pungent smells away. Equally important, she ensures that during milking, the farmhands do it properly,” Kipchoge stated.

Kipchoge has been doing farming since 2013 and currently has two separate farms with the dairy cows being located in Uasin Gishu County while the team farm is located in Nandi County.

"The environment in Nandi is very ideal for tea growing and the soils are also well drained, deep and well aerated. For me those two ventures make more sense given my background. I come from a community that treasures the rearing of cows and the growing of tea,” Kipchoge added.

Kipchoge was also keen to note that at one time he bought hybrid cows which were a loss to him as he purchased them without an in-depth knowledge.

The athlete advised farmers that before investing in dairy farming one needs to do some due diligence. He has also advised the state to allocate more incentives to make the craft more appealing to the youth.

He added that he had plans to modernise the operations and processes at his firm by introduction of technology.
