The football arena in Kenya, and in many parts of the country, has been one that is heavily dominated by men. It has always been uncommon for girls and women to thrive in this field. However, women have been breaking barriers and demystifying stereotypes.

Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu born in November of 2001 in Likembe, Ikolomani Kakamega county,  attended primary school in rural Western Kenya, before transitioning into high school where she continued to perfect her football career and signed for Vihiga Queens.

Her star started shining after her team won the Central African Football games against the other junior Ethiopian team in 2021. It was a win for the whole team as the victory did not come easy.

However, their win against the Ethiopian saw the team receive prizes including money. For Shikangwa, she won a prize of Ksh50,000 for her excellent display.

The youngster chose to make football her personal affair when she impressed with Vihiga Queens in Cairo, Egypt for the CAF Women’s Champions League, signing for Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk.

Shikangwa was capped for Kenya at senior level during the 2019 Cecafa Women's Championship which Starlets won after beating Tanzania 2-0 in the final and the 2020 Turkish Women's Cup.

At a tender age of 19, the striker who dribbled to stardom believes so much is yet to come from her and believes her story will change the general perspective of the society on women playing football. She also hopes that her story will inspire a generation of girls.
