Different from other villages, Ko Panyi is an Island for fishermen who have established their houses built on silt and some floating on water.

The construction of the floating pitch was an inspiration from the 1986  World Cup when the first floating pitch was built, however it was made of wooden board joined together with rusty nails which was sometimes dangerous to play on.

Previously, those who wished to play football would have to wait until the sea went down and revealed the beach where they would use it as their pitch.

The villagers later on with the help from the local authorities, upgraded to a nail free floating pitch.

At the floating football pitch, everyone from the young and old, play matches every day as the pitch is said to generate about ksh150,472 to Ksh 210,661 from tourists each day.

The local team Panyee FC are now one of the most successful youth soccer clubs in Southern Thailand with 7 southern Thai Youth championships under their belt.

Currently the floating soccer pitch that is surrounded by azure waters and limestone cliffs is the main tourist attraction for Koh Panyi.
