Kenya Premier League record holders, Gor Mahia, have a reason to smile after the Court suspended sanctions imposed against the team.

Gor Mahia had been handed sanctions by the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee after chaos erupted in its match against Vihiga Bullets.

Vihiga Bullets was also to be awarded the three points from the match that ended pre-maturely and Gor was to play the next fixtures behind closed doors and without fans.

However, the court suspended the sanctions until the matter is heard and determined.

In its petition, Gor had asked the court to suspend the implementation of the sanctions in a letter dated March 10.

The court agreed with the Green Army.

“The Honourable Court be pleased to suspend the implementation of the two match empty stadium ban imposed on the Petitioner in the letter dated 10th March 2022 pending inter parties hearing of this Application," read the court documents in part.

“The Honourable Court be pleased to suspend the implementation of the two match empty stadium ban imposed on the Petitioner in the letter dated 10th March 2022 pending hearing and final determination of the substantive Petition.”

During the match against Vihiga Bullets, Gor was leading by a solitary goal in the first half before its fans caused chaos leading to the cancellation of the second half.

After the fracas, Gor Mahia Secretary General, Sam Ocholla, noted that the club had been slapped with a Ksh1.2 million fine for the damages caused by the fans.

The clubs Secretary General was, however, quick to dismiss the bill, noting that the club was not responsible for the fans' behaviour.

Further, the Caretaker Committee ordered that K'Ogalo plays its next two home matches at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu without fans.

The Green Army's next Kenya Premier League fixture will be against the Police on Sunday, March 13, in Kisumu.
