On February 13, 2022, chaos erupted during a match between Gor Mahia and Vihiga bullets minutes before the half time whistle.

The match was later cancelled with Gor Mahia leading by one goal against Bullets who had not scored their opponents.

One of Gor Mahia's fans known as Winnie Nyar Kasagam, whose real name is Sheryl Aluoch, was photographed running across Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi carrying a large stone. As she charged towards the scene of the chaos, she was captured by journalists, becoming the face of the confrontation.

According to Winnie, she was agitated and was determine to revenge on behalf of her boyfriend, who was lying on the ground injured .

“I am a calm person. The Winnie you saw carrying a stone at the stadium was not the Winnie that every other person knows. That day I was emotionally disturbed; my heart was aching, and you know when the heart aches, the mind and body responds.

Winnie noted that her boyfriend who supports her financially had been assaulted, triggering her to react adding that there had been rumours that he had been killed. While she regrets the image she portrayed, she claimed she was after fighting for her breadwinner.

“I had just arrived at Kasarani Stadium, only to hear that Odinga had been seriously assaulted. When I entered the stadium, I found him lying on the ground unconscious.

“That triggered intense anger in me. I immediately, picked a stone to go look for the person who had assaulted my partner,” she added.

Winnie however noted that she had to calm down, after learning that the person who had allegedly assaulted her partner was a familiar face.

After the fracas, Gor were handed a Ksh1.2 million fine for the damages caused by their fans but according to the club's secretary general, Sam Ocholla the club would not be footing the bill.

Ocholla noted that the bill sent to them had inflated charges and unclear costing for damages, which they claim, were not responsible for.

“We are going to challenge some of the bills that were sent to us. The only damage our fans did was to the glass door.

“That door cannot have been damaged to cost that amount of money. The said fight was actually outside the stadium not inside, so how can they tell us to repair things inside the stadium when the fight happened outside the gate's stadium,” Ocholla noted.

He also added that the club has switched its preference home stadium from Nairobi to Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega, Moi Stadium in Kisumu or in Narok stadium.
