Kenyan Wins Annual Cooper River Bridge Run

Kenyan athlete, David Bett, is the first male elite runner to cross the finish line at The Cooper River Bridge Run with a time of  28:16.

Bett will receive Ksh1.1M ( USD10,000) for winning the race.

Bett participated in the World Youth Championships in Athletics in Brien, Italy, in 2009 and won a silver medal.

 He won a gold medal in the 5000m category in the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Moncton, Canada.

Bett's siblings are athletic as him. They are Emmanuel Bett and Josphat Bett Kipkoech.

Silas Kipruto (2019) and Dominic Ondoro (2015 and 2016), as well as Leonard Korir, the runner-up last year, were among the male elite runners in the race this year.

Parker Stinson, the American record holder in the 25K, and Clayton Young, the 2021 US champion in the 15K, are two other standouts.

The Cooper River Bridge Run is the third largest 10K foot race in the United States. 

The event starts on Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, travels across the Cooper River/Ravenel Bridge (a 2.5-mile-long span ), and finishes in downtown Charleston.

For this year's Bridge Run, the majority of Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. 

Participants did not need to present proof of vaccination or a Covid-19 test result. However, masks and hand sanitiser stations were available throughout the event.
