Nemanja Matic has announced he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season when his contract expires.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2017 in a Ksh4.8 billion (£32million) deal.
Matic announced the news of his departure from United on Friday, April 15 through an Instagram post.
“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.
“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.
”I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible,” Matic's post read.
During his five seasons at United, Matic has made 182 appearances for the club under four managers; Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and current interim boss Ralf Rangnick.
Matic is one of four senior players including Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba who are approaching the end of their contracts at United at the end of the season.
During his stint at Old Trafford, Matic has seen United finish as runner up in both the Europa League and the FA Cup and will be leaving without lifting a silverware at the club.
“Thank you for all of your efforts over the last five seasons Nemanja and here's to a strong finish to your time at United, over the coming weeks,” a statement by Manchester United read.
