Kabras Sugar RFC and Fiji-born star Jone Kubu has been named in the Kenya Simba's provisional squad that is being prepared for international assignments  by head coach Paul Odera.

In the World Rugby residential rules, the Fijian born, who has been in Kenya for the past five years  playing for Kakamega based side Kabras Sugar RFC,  is eligible to play for the Kenyan national team after having met the minimum requirement for three years of residing and featuring for a Kenyan club.

The Kabras RFC Utility back has been a key role in the rise for the Kakamega-based club and also steered the club into its first ever Kenya Cup win for the club back in 2016 after beating Impala RFC in the finals and went ahead winning the Enterprise Cup in 2019 against the same the very same Ngong Road giants.

Jone Kubu has showcased his talent and skill set for Kabras Sugar RFC ever since he signed for the club and his call up to the national team will be a big boost in his playing career as he will get a chance to learn and grow from other players from different clubs while at the national team.

The 102 players named in the Kenya 15's will be expected to start their virtual training as soon as possible since there is not much time left for the World Cup Qualifiers kick off where Kenya will be expected to face Zambia and Senegal.

The Kenya Rugby Union had to reschedule a 10-day high performance training camp for the Simba players slated for Stellenbosch, South Africa that was earlier set for April . The camp will now take place in June before the Qualifier games begin.

The named squad will be expected to  undergo a series of assessment tests after which the team will be narrowed down to 50 players and later, a final list of 30 players who will compete in this year’s Rugby Africa Cup Edition.
