
World 5000m champion Hellen Obiri and world record holder Letesenbet Gidey are set to meet again in the 3000m at the Wanda Doha Diamond League stage on May 28.
The Kenyan 5000m queen is a well seasoned competitor with three world track titles under her belt.She is also the reigning World Cross Country champion and Commonwealth Games champion over 5000m.
Her competitor Letesenbet Gidey on the other end has a good track record after nailing a podium finish at the 10,000m World championship in 2019 and has been offering stiff competition to the Kenyan as she did in the World Cross Country Championship where she finished third slightly behind Hellen Obiri.
The Ethiopian long distance runner broke the world 5000m record in October after clocking 14:06.62 at the finish line in a race that was held in Valencia.
In the Duo's recent meetings Hellen Obiri has recorded the most wins over the Ethiopian with the latest one being the Diamond league that was held in Monaco last year where Obiri clocked a time of 14:22:12 in the 5000m race.
Doha has been offered a winning platform for the 31 year old kenyan as she has recorded various wins at the place, the last one being the world championships 2019 edition.
The Kenyan International is also considered as a custodian of the Diamond league where she ran a Kenyan record time of 8:20in 2014 and the second fastest 3000m in her career at the same stage last year September crossing over the finish line at 8:22.
Both Obiri and Gidey will be taking the track at the Diamond League and will be using it as a platform to help them prepare for the summer olympic games in Tokyo.Obiri has her sight set on the Olympic gold medal as it is the only main medal missing in her athletic career.
