Eliud Kipchoge Announces Return to Berlin Marathon

Marathon World record holder Eliud Kipchoge announced that he would make a come back to the 2022 Berlin Marathon on September 25. 

The 37-year-old athlete has missed the last two editions of 2019 and 2021. 

Kipchoge noted that the Berlin marathon is a special event for him adding that the course helps human beings showcase their potential to push the limits.

“Berlin is the fastest course, it’s where a human being can showcase its potential to push the limits,” Kipchoge noted. 

Kipchoge's last appearance at Berlin was in 2018 when he claimed the world record, clocking a time of 2:01:39. 

The Olympic gold medalist made his first appearance in the edition back in 2013 where he finished second behind fellow Kenyan Wilson Kipsang.

Kipchoge is unmatched in the 42.2km distance having won 14 out of 16 career marathons. 

He will be hoping to win the Berlin Marathon for the fourth time to match Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie's record. 

The last competitive race Kipchoge participated in was the Tokyo Marathon in March 2022, where he finished top setting the fourth quickest time in history.
