
Kenyan international Victor Mugubi Wanyama failed to make the cut for the 2022 Major League Soccer all-stars squad named on July 12, 2022.
The former Celtic, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder was not included in the 26-man squad that is scheduled to play Mexican League All-stars on August 10 in Minnesota, United States.
Wanyama has had an excellent season with CF Montreal. He captains the Canadian football club which currently sits fourth in Major League Soccer’s Eastern conference log, 4 points behind leaders New York Red Bulls.

Wanyama retired from international football in September 2021, after making 52 appearances for Kenya. He scored 7 goals in his fifteen-year international career.
The 31-year-old who announced his retirement on social media, stated that he wanted to give youngsters a chance to take Kenyan football to the next level.
“From making my debut against Nigeria to captaining the team at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt. These past 14 years have gone beyond what I ever thought possible,"
The time has come to hand over the team to the next generation so that they too can make their mark and help our country reach even greater heights," read Wanyama's statement then.
Some of the former European Leagues players that have been included in the star-studded squad include former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Javier Hernandez commonly known as "Chicharito", Julian Araujo, and Deandre Yedlin.

Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Carlos Vela is also set to feature in the fixture which was decided on post-match penalties in 2021. Vela has had a successful campaign for Los Angeles FC since joining them five years ago, netting 65 times over the period.
Dallas FC forward Jesus Ferreira, 2021 MLS golden boot winner Taty Castellanos and Victor Wanyama’s teammate Kamal Miller have also been included in the team.
Major League Soccer fans, coaches and the media were all involved in the selection of the players.
