The family of Kenya Sevens Coach Benjamin Ayimba on Saturday, May 8, issued an update on the tactician’s health status, expressing optimism in his recovery.
Ayimba was diagnosed with cerebral malaria earlier this year but his family broke the news to the public in March stating that they needed public support in raising funds to offset the hospital bill that had accumulated in a city hospital where he was receiving treatment.
A number of well wishers came to the rescue of Ayimba's family in helping them raise the hospital bills including Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who started a fundraising campaign that saw the President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Chip in.
Ayimba’s family and Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Chairman Oduor Gangla last month urged Kenyans to continue contributing money to offset the medical bill of the ailing former head coach
As of Sunday, May 9, a total of Ksh5.27 million had been raised and a bill of Ksh3.6 million was required at Avenue Hospital before facilitating his move to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he is currently receiving treatment.
The bill at KNH is accumulating as well and is at Ksh2.1 million and thus the family has urged Kenyans to keep on sending in their funds that will help them offset the bill.
Despite the challenge of raising the hospital bills for their loved one, the family yesterday came in with positive news on the updates of Ayimba's health status.
They confirmed that things are going on well whereby the rugby legend has regained consciousness and his limbs are responsive as compared to a couple of weeks ago where he was non-responsive.
Through their family spokesperson Oscar Osir the family showcased their gratitude towards the well wishers and kenyans at large for standing by them during the tough times. They also thanked the public who wished them well and kept the family in their daily prayers as things are taking a positive turn for the rugby icon health status.
