Concour D’Elegance, the classiest event in Africa, was introduced to Kenya in 1971 by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club members.

The organizers were inspired by the stylish appearance of the Spider Sports and Giulia Coupes cars that were popular in the late 1960s.

During the first edition of Concour D’Elegance which was held at the Spread Eagle Hotel (present day Safari Park hotel), only 12 cars lined up to compete. Among the 12 cars, Perry Mason’s 1600 GT emerged the overall winner.

The Romeo Owners Club members fell in love with the competition after the inaugural edition and requested their committee to hold the event every year.

The committee accepted their request, allowing the event to be held annually and  moved from Safari Park hotel to Embakasi motor racing circuit. A decision was also made to make Concour D’Elegance open to all types and makes of cars.

However, a few years later the Embakasi motor racing circuit lost its license due to the expansion of the capital city. Concour D’Elegance organizers were forced to look for a new venue, eventually settling for the Nairobi Race course in 1988.

When the event was moved to Nairobi Racecourse, the organizers introduced a variety of attractions to entertain the spectators including a free fall parachute drop, live band music and a children's center.

The competition is set to return on Sunday, September 25, 2022 after a two-year break caused by the pandemic. It will be staged at the Ngong Race Course from 0900hrs East African Time.

Over 10,000 spectators are expected to grace the colorful event which will see participants compete in different categories.

Only 40 motorcycles and 70 cars will be allowed to take part in this year’s edition due to the limited time available to make quality judgments.
