Reigning national schools games champions Wiyeta Secondary School continued with their dominance after clinching the 2022 title.

The Trans Nzoia County-based representatives narrowly defeated a spirited Dagoretti Mixed from Nairobi region 4-1 on penalties to lift their 10th national title.

Wiyeta has dominated girls football since the early 2000s winning back to back titles from 2015 onwards.

The school's success can be credited to the good structures that have put in place to nurture talents from a young age.

Before the pandemic disrupted school games, Wiyeta clinched the Copa Under 16 title in 2019 after beating Maeni from Western region 2-1 in the final.

Wiyeta has produced many brilliant players who have gone on to play for the national side Harambee Starlets.

Some of the Starlets stars who schooled at the institution include red hot forward Jentrix Shikangwa, Khakasa Maureen and Leah Cherotich.

In other events, Coast region representatives Kaya Tiwi thrashed Kibera-based Olympic secondary school 60-54 to win the national Basketball title.

St. Anthony’s Kitale beat their nemesis Friends School Kamusinga 1-0 in the boys hockey final to clinch the national title. Both teams will represent Kenya at the East African school games.
