Kenyan Students to Compete for Ksh2.5 Million in Esports Tournament

Students from various higher learning institutions across the country will battle it out for a Ksh2.5 million prize award during the 2022 national Esports competition scheduled to kick off on October 8.

The organizers of the Red Bull Campus Clutch tournament revealed that this year's edition will have two methods of qualification.

Online qualifiers will take place on October 15 while the offline one scheduled for October 8. Competitors will decide whether to use the online or offline qualification route.

Teams which make it past the qualifiers stage will battle it out in the national finals planned for October 22.

Apart from pocketing the prize money, the squad which emerges the overall winner will represent the country at the world finals to be staged later this year. 

"Each team of five will progress through qualifiers, with the top teams making their way to their respective national final.

“There, the country's top student teams will go head-to-head, with the winners named Red Bull Campus Clutch National Final Champions, earning a coveted spot to represent their country in the World Final event," read a statement from the organizers.

This year’s world final will be held in Brazil and the trip to the South American nation will be fully sponsored by the organizers.

Team Step Bro bagged the 2021 national title in which more than 40,000 students from various universities took part.

The 2021 world title was won by an Egyptian team called Team Anubis. One of the players from the squad went on to sign a lucrative contract with Team Vitality, a pro esports company.
