Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed convened a meeting with the FKF Transition Committee on Thursday, September 29.

In what was likely to be her last task as the sports CS, Amina reiterated that the ministry intervened in football matters to save the sport from fraud and embezzlement.

“As good managers, we decided to use the information we got regarding the management of football in Kenya and acted in line with our quest to rescue this cherished and most popular sport in the world.

“Kenyan football can be characterized as 58 years of confusion and I was disappointed with the findings of the Sports Registrar following an inspection that was conducted on FKF,” Amina noted.

In the meeting, the FKF Transition Committee highlighted their achievements while in tenure since the removal of the Nick Mwendwa-led team.

The committee noted that it was able to initiate discussions with various companies and organisations about sponsoring entities in Kenyan football.

Another achievement that was highlighted was that the FKF Transition Committee was able to table a proposal for hosting a Kenyan football conference which would present an opportunity for Kenyan football entities to pitch to prospective sponsors.

The Committee also engaged a marketing agency to work out how and when the conference can be held, ensured successful trophy handover to champions of the FKF leagues as well as the smooth transfer and registration of players.

Advanced grants were further issued to different FKF leagues under the FKF Transition Committee's tenure.

The FKF Premier league received Ksh300,000 per month per club, the National Super League received Ksh250,000, the Women's Premier League Ksh300,000, FKF Men Division Ksh100,000 and FKF Women Division clubs received Ksh250 000.

Other achievements included the resumption and successful conclusion of leagues, harmonisation of the schedules of the FKF PL and FKF NSL and the introduction of season handbooks for FKF leagues.

On August 15, the Transition Committee's tenure was extended by two months which put their last day in office as October 16, 2022.

President William Ruto announced Ababu Namwamba as the nominee for the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports & Arts on September 27. Namwamba will succeed Amina Mohamed at the sports docket.
