Mo Salah came off the bench to score the fastest-ever hat trick in Champions League history as Liverpool thrashed Rangers 7-1 on Wednesday, October 12.

The Egyptian came on in the second half with his team-leading 3-1 before proceeding to find the back of the net on three occasions in just six minutes.

The previous record was held by former French center forward Bafétimbi Gomis from 2011 when he took eight minutes to complete his hat trick in a 7-1 win for Lyon against Dinamo Zagreb.

The Egyptian forward is also the African top scorer in Champions League history with 45 goals surpassing Didier Drogba who had 44.

Salah who was introduced in the game in place of Darwin Nunez in the 68 minutes found the back of the net at minutes 76, 80 and 81.

All his three goals came from his fellow teammate Diego Jota. Other Liverpool players who scored were Roberto Firmino who netted a brace, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott each having one.

The win placed Liverpool in second place in Group A three points behind Napoli, Ajax is third, three points behind the reds with Rangers closing the group.

With the win in Glasgow, Jürgen Klopp's side improved its chances to advance to the round of 16.

Liverpool require either a draw or a win against Ajax when they face each in two weeks' time to advance to the knockout stage.

The Reds will be facing Manchester City on Sunday, October 16, in match week 11 of the 2022/2023 Premier League season.
