Kilifi County is set to hold the African Triathlon Cup Championships on November 27, 2022, after the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) partnered with Kenya Triathlon Federation.
On Monday, October 17, NOC-K gave Ksh927,000 in sponsorship funds to help meet the costs of the main event.
Kenya Triathlon Federation Treasurer Rommel Lukila received the funds, stating that Kenya was lucky to host the global event.

“We are very privileged to be hosting the event because the African Cup has never come to Kenya. We are looking forward to a big race and are very grateful to NOC-K for agreeing to partner with us to help in creating awareness and popularising the triathlon.
‘‘Usually, Kenya takes about ten athletes a year to similar ranking competitions, therefore hosting gives the same opportunity for more athletes at reduced costs,” Lukila noted.
NOC-K secretary general, Francis Mutuku, praised the Triathlon Federations for the successful bid.
Mutuku noted that part of the NOC-K strategic direction initiative is to improve the exposure of athletes to international competition by supporting various federations to participate in International events.
Nine countries already confirmed participation with 25 Kenyan athletes expected to participate in the continental event organised by the World Triathlon Federation and African Triathlon Federation.
According to the Kenya Triathlon Federation, the event will expose more Kenyan athletes to international competitions.
The federation's world ranking improved after Kenya was given the green light to host the event, used as a pathway to the 2021 Paris Olympic Games.
