After years as a player and on the technical bench, former Harambee Stars tactician Jerry Onyango has opened a goalkeeping academy in  Nairobi.

Onyango, who has previously played for Gor Mahia and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) broke the news on October 20, 2022.

“With more than 10 years experience as a goalkeeper and over 5 years as a goalkeeper coach, I am hosting a goalkeeping training every weekday from 4pm and Saturdays from 10.00am.

“Come and learn safe and correct techniques for diving, catching the ball, hands and feet distributions, second reaction to shots, goalkeeping communication and awareness, and  dealing with crosses,” stated Onyango.

The academy targets budding talent between the ages of 9 and 15 years.

According to Onyango, those who wish to learn from the best should visit the Utalii Grounds, located near the Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) along Thika road.

Jerry is one of the most respected shot stoppers in the history of Gor Mahia. He joined the side in 2009 after impressive displays with KRA.

In 2013, the Ugunja-born trainer captained K’Ogallo to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) title after a 18-year hiatus. Jerry was also influential in Gor Mahia’s 2014 and 2015 KPL triumph.

At international level, Onyango received his first national team call up in 2011 and went on to make his Harambee Stars debut in 2013.

He was also part of the Harambee Stars squad that won the 2013 Cecafa Cup title in a tournament that was staged in Kenya.

After a brilliant playing career, Jagoal as he was known by most football fans retired in 2017 and ventured into the coaching profession.

Some of the teams that Jerry has coached include Kariobangi Sharks, Gor Mahia Under 18 side and Harambee Stars youth sides.
