Odera took responsibility for the team's failure to qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
In his resignation, he noted that there are others besides him responsible for the teams' development.
“However, a national team’s results have more than one measurable besides the head coach. Others are also accountable and responsible for a sustainable financial strategy, building a High-Performance environment, arranging competitive fixtures and creating a pathway for players from the grassroots to the Simbas,” part of his letter read, according to Capital Sports.
He also pointed out that he could not measure whether he was successful or not with his coaching for the national team, adding that the players, coaching staff, and other stakeholders would judge him.
Odera also thanked the Kenya Rugby Union Board and its leadership for allowing him to lead the Simbas.
The coach added that coaching Simbas helped him grow his career as a coach, leader and manager. Odera coached the national men's rugby 15s team for the past three years.
