President William Ruto lost a bet to his wife, Rachel Ruto, during the 2022 FIFA World Cup epic final staged at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Sunday night, December 18, 2022.

According to Rachel, the head of state had placed his bet on France retaining its title.

On the other hand, Rachel had her money pinned on the Lionel Messi-captained Argentine side bagging their first trophy after a long hiatus.

However, the first lady had the last laugh since the game ended 3-3 in regulation time, but Argentina won 4-2 on post-match penalties.

French forwards Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Djani Tchouameni missed their spot kicks.

Rachel took to social media to remind her husband, whom she calls Bill, to pay the bill.

“The emotive game saw fingers crossed across the world. But, as is the essence of all sports, a best among equals had to be found.

“And, Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalty kicks after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

“I want to join the rest of the world in congratulating the Argentina National Football Team, captained by Lionel Messi, for winning the 2022 World Cup tournament.

“Wear your three stars with pride! Bill, pay your bill,” part of her statement read.

Ruto was among the dignitaries who attended the dramatic final in Qatar.

In pictures shared widely on social media platforms, the fifth President of Kenya was seen hanging around his Rwandanese compatriot Paul Kagame and the head of FIFA, Gianni Infantino.
