On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, Tennis Kenya Federation launched the construction of 24 public tennis courts.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by tennis stakeholders in the country, including star player Angella Okutoyi.
James Kenani, the federation's President, was at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where the multi-billion facility would be built.

“Home of Tennis coming your way. Today, President James Kenani and Architects on-site are mapping out the courts to be built at Kasarani.
“Smiles as we get to mark this beautiful day. Angella Okutoyi leading the pack,” read part of the statement from Tennis Kenya.
According to the federation, the government has allocated Ksh 40,000,000 seed money for the courts' construction.
The facility would be constructed on a 10-acre parcel of land donated by the national government in 2018.
On Monday, the federation celebrated 100 years since it was founded. The maiden court in Kenya was built in the 1920s in Laikipia County.
The Kenya Lawn Tennis Association (KLTA) was registered in 1927 to oversee tennis activities in the country.
2022 was one of the most successful years in the history of Kenyan tennis. Most players, particularly Okutoyi, registered extraordinary performances at different tournaments worldwide.
Okutoyi, at the age of 18, became the first player to clinch a Grand Slams title in Kenya’s history.
She accomplished that phenomenal fete at the Wimbledon Open on Saturday, July 9, in London, United Kingdom.
