Namwamba Praises Triathlon Event For Supporting Bottom-up Approach

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba presided over the 10th edition of the Vipingo Ridge Annual Triathlon event in Kilifi County on December 28.

The triathlon featured an open water 750m ocean swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run.

In a statement shared by the Ministry Of Youth Affairs, Sports & The Arts, the event was organized to bring together the local community for a moment of fun and sporting activities.

Furthermore, the CS claimed in the statement that the Vipingo Ridge Annual Triathlon event is part of a cause to save the ocean through the Oceans Alive initiative. 

Namwamba praised the event terming it as a perfect platform to identify talents and nurture them through his famed Bottom-up approach model.

As part of Namwamba's drive to reward talent the winners of the various categories were awarded cash prizes.

During his tour, the CS together with his Principle Secretary Jonathan Mueke visited the PGA Academy at the Vipingo Ridge, Kilifi.

At the PGA Academy, the Sports CS was accompanied by Regina Gachora, the President of the Junior Golf Foundation, and Alastair Cavenagh, the Chairman of Vipingo Ridge.

The PGA Academy is the sole high-performance golf academy in East and Central Africa.

It is used to train raw golf talents as well as train the elite players who represent Kenya in global golf competitions.

Among notable beneficiaries of the academy is Naomi Wafula, Kenya's ladies' amateur champion.

Wafula was discovered at the age of 6 and she is the current best amateur golfer in the country with a handicap of +1.

Namwamba praised the management for developing a state-of-the-art facility that helps in nurturing talents in Kenya.

According to the ministry, the academy employs technology-based learning in its quest to develop Kenya's next big talent in golf sport.
