Kenyan athletes registered mixed performances at individual and international levels in 2022.
However, despite a number of excellent performances, below are the biggest sporting moments in Kenya’s sports industry in 2022.
Eliud Kipchoge Breaking the world record
Eliud Kipchoge’s sensational run at the 2022 BMW Berlin marathon is arguably Kenya’s biggest sporting moment of 2022.
The 37-year-old, as calm as he always does, destroyed the Berlin course to break his world record.

He led from the start to the end to reach the tape in 02:01.09, lowering the previous world mark of 02:01.39 he set at the same event in 2018 by an impressive 30 seconds.
Kenyans from different backgrounds, regions and political affiliations held their heads high with pride, thanks to Kipchoge’s performance.
Angella Okutoyi winning the Wimbledon title
Angella OKutoyi, who was raised by her grandmother, also created the biggest sporting moment in Kenya in 2022.
The 18-year-old became the first Kenyan ever to lift the prestigious girls' doubles title at the United Kingdom-based Wimbledon tournament.
Okutoyi, alongside her Dutch partner Rose Marie Nijkamp, walloped the Canadian duo of Victoria Mboko and Kayla Cross to emerge the winners.
In doing so, she became a household name in Kenya, inspiring hundreds of Kenyan youngsters to start playing tennis.
Stanley Waithaka Mburu’s electric performance in Oregon
Stanley Waithaka Mburu was a nobody before his thrilling performance at the 2022 World Athletics Championship staged in Eugene, United States.
On Sunday, July 17, Japan-based Mburu produced one of the most inspiring performances in Kenya’s field and track history to bag a 10,000m silver medal at the World Championships.
Despite being beaten by the reigning world record holder Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda, Mburu touched the hearts of thousands of Kenyan citizens having run the bigger part of the race with a wounded leg.
Many runners would have given up and pulled out of the race, but Waithaka soldiered on and made an entire nation proud.
