2022 has been a successful year for many Kenyan athletes with some registering the fastest speeds effectively becoming among the fastest male marathoners.

Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge obliterated the field on Sunday, September 25, 2022, to improve the world record she set in  2018 by an impressive 30 seconds.

The Kaptagat-based runner overcame all the obstacles to win the BMW Marathon title in 02:01.09 ahead of fellow countryman Mark Korir and Ethiopia’s Tadu Abate.

Korir and Abate clocked 2:05.58 and 2:06.28 respectively. Kipchoge’s performance in the streets of the German capital was a remarkable one since no athlete has ever come close to finishing a race in under two hours since the birth of the marathon in 1896.

Kelvin Kiptum

Kelvin Kiptum, the underdog, came out of nowhere to clock 02:01.53 at the 2022 Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP marathon staged on Sunday, December 4.

In near-perfect conditions, Kiptum ran a well-calculated race to win the first marathon of his career ahead of Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay and compatriot Alexander Mutiso.

Gabriel Gerald Geay

Road race runner, Gabriel Gerald Geay was among the top five fastest marathoners in 2022.

Before Sunday, December 4, 2022, no one knew about the long-distance runner.

However, Geay produced a scintillating performance in the streets of the third most populous city in Spain.

Geay put the Tanzanian flag on the world map when he trounced star athletes to register a second-place finish in a personal best time of 2:03.00 - the third-fastest time in 2022.

Amos Kipruto

Amos Kipruto, who trains in Kapsabet, Nandi County white washed Ethiopian runner Leul Gebresilase and Bashir Abdi in the final stages of the race to finish second at the 2022 Tokyo Marathon.

On Sunday, March 6, the 30-year-old clocked a personal best time of 2:03.13 to finish second behind the reigning world record Eliud Kipchoge.

Kipruto did not stop there, he went on to win the prestigious London Marathon title in 02:04.39.

Alexander Mutiso

Trinidad EDP Alfonso marathon produced three fastest male marathoners this year.

However, this should not come as a surprise since Valencia has one of the fastest courses in the world.

Kenya’s Alexander Mutiso, who was also making a full marathon debut in Valencia alongside the race winner Kelvin Kiptum, clocked 2:03.29 to settle for a third-place finish in Valencia.

In doing so, he became the fifth fastest marathon runner in 2022.
