Angella Okutoyi Helps Auburn University Pick Vital Win

Angella Okutoyi proved her worth for the United States-based Auburn University once again on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

The 19-year-old old freshwoman won her match to help the Auburn Tigers advance to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend Championship match.

The one-time Wimbledon Open Champion beat Marta Gonzalez Ballbe from the University of California at Santa Barbara in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) to ensure her institution pick up maximum points.

Speaking after the victory, Auburn Tigers tactician Caroline Lilley stated that they are aiming to better their performances in the upcoming tournaments.  

"Choosing to remain committed to the process means when facing adversity one can remain composed.

"When we focus on what we can control, solutions exist to be found. We are looking forward to embracing the competitive opportunity tomorrow as we pursue incremental improvements." she ended.

Other stars who bagged victories for Auburn University include Adeline Falch, Kaitlyn Carnicella, and DJ Bennett.

Carnicella walloped Valentina Khrebtova 6-2, 6-3 while Bennett came from a set behind to overcome Kira Reuter 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Okutoyi is scheduled to play her next match on Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Centre. 

She joined the Alabama-based higher learning institution a few weeks ago after fantastic displays during the 2022 season. 

Okutoyi was offered numerous education scholarships but she ended up joining Auburn.
