The Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba has announced that construction work will only continue at Kirubia Stadium and Embu-based Moi Stadium because they are expected to host national events in a few months.
Kirubia Stadium is set to host the 2023 Kenya Youths Inter-County Sports Association Games, while this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Moi Stadium.
Earlier this year, he issued a statement stopping all construction works in stadiums around the nation until an audit is done.

According to the ministry, the aim of the audit is to find out the amount of money that was used and why these stadiums are yet to be completed.
Ababu was also unhappy with a contractor's work at Kirubia Stadium, which has a 45,000-seat capacity, directing those involved to return to work.
“The contractor who did this job should immediately get back to work and rectify all the wrongs in this stadium,” stated Namwamba.
Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke and the County governor Muthomi Njuki accompanied him.
Governor Njuki lauded the CS for his good work in different parts of the country.
“Today, I hosted sports CS Ababu Namwamba and his Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke at the Kirubia stadium, where they inspected its state of preparedness.
“My administration is inspired by CS Ababu's vision of Talanta Hela, which aims to strengthen sporting initiatives at the grassroots and culminate to globally recognized sportsmen and women,” he ended.
