
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Sports Ababu Namwamba indicated that this was the year for Kenyan women and youths to make a mark at the eagerly anticipated 2023 Safari Rally Championship.
Namwamba spoke during a stakeholders meeting that was held in Nairobi to set the ball rolling for this year’s event.
According to the CS, the government would like to see women and youth representatives in the championship which is slated to begin on Thursday, June 22.

“We want to see women drivers in this rally. We want to see young people participating strongly in this motorsports event.
“Let us have a true representation, of gender and youth,” he commented.
The CS further advised the management team to use the money allocated by the government wisely.
“The government is keen to see value for money in this rally project. Cut down on the extravagance and let us be prudent in the way we use resources for this rally.
“Let us have responsible spending in this rally project,” Namwamba added.
Notably, the CS assured the steering committee that they would be supported fully by the government.
On the other hand, famed driver Carl Tundo stated that stakeholders would work together to deliver a historic and successful championship.
“We are raring to go and are ready to deliver a memorable event. We will do this in the spirit of teamwork.
“I urge us the organising committee to work together to deliver a successful event,” ended Tundo.
