It’s approximately 14 days to the start of the much anticipated Olympic games in Tokyo and this time round, 5 sporting disciplines will be added to the summer games, something the sporting world should definitely keep an eye on. Not only that, what is really curious is how the games will be integrated to allow a competitive side to come into the mixture and most probably we can have a chance of seeing different teams testing their skills with unfamiliar sporting disciplines.
Let's dive in and have a look at the New Sports.
- Skateboarding
A rather unfamiliar sport here in Kenya, but I’m pretty sure you have seen one or two skateboarders especially in skating parks around avenues, well that simple board mounted with wheels will be making it’s grand entrance in the forthcoming summer games.
- Karate
For so long, Karate enthusiasts would wait eagerly for the sport to make its debut into the games more so after a rather familiar similar sport, Taekwondo already made its mark. With the sport set for the Olympics, male and female karatekas will have the opportunity to compete in two forms of the sport; Kara (a solo form of karate) and Kumite (sparring). The competition will be held at a place known as Nippon Budokan, which has a history as the very first venue for the Karate World Championships back in 1970.
- Baseball
The sport is finally making a comeback since 2008 and modern as may it look, the game is apparently one of the oldest and most established sports in the world. Being a major sport in the United States since the 1800s, the game has gained world recognition from the Americas, Asia and also Europe. Australia has also shown its big interest in the sport by actually having its own league, making the game more popular in far fetched global regions.
- Surfing
Surfers will finally make their Olympic debut at Tsurigasaki Beach right on Japan's Pacific coast. The sport initially originated in Hawaii and Tahiti making it largely popular on the pacific coast lines. Brazilians and Australians will also be fully fledged in the competition.
- Sport Climbing
This is a kind of sport where the athletes have to traverse a wall dotted with holes of different shapes and sizes, competing in speed and mostly the walls range about 50 foot. Within the competition itself, athletes will also be gauged on how high they can climb within a certain time limit. How interesting.
