Kenya’s women's 3,000m steeplechase duo of Beatrice Chepkoech and Hyvin Kiyeng will on Wednesday afternoon aim to bring home a first gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics.

Chepkoech is the current world record holder in the distance while Kiyeng is the olympic silver medalist from Rio 2016.

Kenya has never won gold in the women’s steeplechase but they have one of the best duo in the distance currently.

The two will however face stiff competition from Bahrain’s Winfred Havi Rio bronze medalist Emma Coburn and Germany’s Gesa-Felicitas Krause.

Kiyeng is however determined to see this through after disappointments in the past global events.

“We will run as a team in the final. I will work with Beatrice, but it will not be easy as everyone wants a medal. Anybody who was not rated can go on and win the race,” Kiyeng said.
