The South Sudan national women football team will today for the first time in their history play an international friendly match when they take on their Ethiopian counterparts at the national stadium in Addis Ababa.

The 4pm kick off brings together two teams that have contrasting histories in the respective game.

For South Sudan, they have a team that is fresh and raring to go while Ethiopia, they are seeking for good preparations ahead of the 2023 AWCON qualifiers scheduled for June.

Ahead of the match, former Harambee Starlets coach Florence ‘Duah’ Adhiambo has expressed her optimism that the Bright Starlets will be a team to watch in the future.

Speaking for the first time since being appointed as Shilene Booysene’s assistant, Adhiambo says she is excited about the prospects ahead despite having a few weeks of preparation for their first ever international fixture.

“Of course I'm very excited because  I'm in a foreign country ,new challenge and meeting new people makes it more fun,” she told TeamKenya.

Duah actually was hesitant in applying for the Assistant coach post but after the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) technical director made direct contact with the former Makolanders coach, she decided to head south.

“I was to apply when they posted but hesitated then the chance went. I then received a call from their Technical director who asked if i could go and help them, that is when i knew that i was needed somewhere,” she said.

“They are a young nation but with immense talent that if exploited well they will be a force to reckon in the near future.”
