The Kenyan Rugby Union (KRU) has said that unvaccinated players will be barred from playing when the Kenya Cup season begins at the weekend.
All Kenya Cup players will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before the start of the new season this weekend or they will be barred from playing.
KRU published the vaccination policy on Tuesday, November 23, with clubs to ultimately determine action on staff who do not receive the jab.
“No team will be allowed to field players not yet fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and all team to compile vaccination certificates and email as (1) email to competitions@kru.co.ke on or before November 24, 2021.Unvaccinated players hall also be considered ineligible,” the publication read.
The Government had earlier this year conducted an extensive vaccination rollout for sportsmen and women as part of safe measures that would allow for the return of sporting activities.
The KRU’s COVID-19 mandate comes days after the Government directive that Kenyans must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination by December 21 to access public services.
The new season of the Kenya Cup campaign kick starts on Saturday, November 27, with six matches on the cards.
The season will again be played on a one off, round robin format with the top four teams qualifying for the semi final playoffs with the final slated for March 5, 2022.
