Gareth Bale has labelled the criticism he received from Spanish newspapers ahead of the Wales vs Austria match as ‘disgusting’.
This comes after the Real Madrid player scored two goals that saw his side secure a 2-1 win over Austria in their World Cup play-off tie.
The 32-year-old was subjected to a scathing attack within the Spanish press, with sports newspaper Marca referring to him as a ‘parasite’ for making himself available to play for Wales and not Real Madrid.
They claimed that he avoided selection in Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat by Barcelona on Sunday, March 13.
Bale insisted he is not fussed about the abuse but said it was uncalled for.
When asked to respond to the papers, he said; I don’t need to send a message, it’s a waste of my time. It’s disgusting and they should all be ashamed of themselves.”
The results saw Wales go within 90 minutes of a first appearance at the World Cup since 1958.
Bale has only played 83 minutes for Real Madrid since August but remained on the pitch until added time during the Wales-Austria game.

He scored two brilliant goals, including one from a direct free-kick.
Bale stared down to the lens of a camera while tapping the Wales crest on his jersey after scoring the second goal against Austria.
Wales will wait until June to play either Scotland or Ukraine for a place at the Qatar 2022.
In June, Bale's contract with Real Madrid will expire, rendering him a free agent.
