
On March 25, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed, officially opened the Jamhuri Sports Complex.
The sports ground transformation began in August 2020, after a directive by the Head of State.
Jamhuri Park was transformed into an ultra-modern sports complex with a variety of amenities.

“As a country, we are proud of our sporting prowess. We have seen our sports heroes like Michael Olunga, Collins Injera, Oscar Ouma, Vincent Onyala, Eliud Kipchoge, Mercy Cherono, Faith Kipyegon among others bring honour to our motherland through their exemplary performances at the international stage.
"Through the construction of such sports facilities, we seek to nurture even more talents as we make sports a mainstream income-earning venture for our youth,” stated CS Amina.
The Sports Complex sits on a 79-acre piece of land and houses a food court, modern abolition blocks, picnic sites, jogging tracks, three football pitches and two rugby fields.
Ordinary citizens will also use the sports centre as a recreational facility.
“The facility is among the new sports infrastructure that have been delivered within 12 months, and that the government had planned to nurture talent and promote sporting activities across the country,” a statement by the Ministry of Sports read in part.
The complex is located in the Kibra Constituency was transformed at an estimated cost of Ksh609 million.
It is also expected that a section of Ngong Forest in Nairobi will be incorporated in to the ultra-modern Complex with time.
