17 place English Premier League club, Burnley, hope to appoint Manchester City legend, Vincent Kompany, as head coach.
The Belgian is the current Anderlecht manager. Burnley’s hopes, however, hinge on EPL survival as the club will be fighting to remain afloat in a relegation battle on the last day of the 2021/22 season.
Kompany is the frontrunner as Chairman Alan Pace seeks former manager Sean Dyche’s permanent replacement.
Burnley sacked Dyche in April 2022 after the club recorded poor results. Dyche, who had been the head coach for over 10 years, was replaced by an interim boss, Mike Jackson.
However, the EPL club faces competition from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg who are chasing after Kompany’s signature.
The veteran centre-back left oil-rich Manchester City in 2019 after 2,265 appearances, scoring 18 goals, 8 assists and 94 clean sheets. He captained the club for 8 years and notably won their first league title in 44 years in 2012.
Kompany has remained coy on his future in recent weeks but is reportedly interested in the prospect of moving back to England.
Meanwhile, Burnley will face high flying Newcastle at home and will avoid the drop if they match Leeds United’s result. Fellow relegation candidates will be away to Brentford.
Burnley and Leeds both have 35 points sitting at 17 and 18 on the log, but the former have conceded fewer goals (18) as compared to the latter’s 38.
16 place Everton survived relegation after coming back to win 3-2 against Crystal Palace on Thursday. 19 and 20 place Watford and Norwich were already relegated to the Championship.
