Former Liverpool FC shot stopper Bruce Grobbelaar revealed on August 24, 2022 how he helped the Reds lift the 2019/2020 English Premier League title after a 30-year long wait.

In an interview with FourFourTwo Magazine, Grobbelaar who was born in Zimbabwe explained how he used a trick he learnt in Africa to help propel the Merseyside club to glory.

“In Africa, if the pitch was cursed then you peed on the posts. So when I came back to live in England, I was asked to play in the corporate game at Anfield.

“I told the story to Tage Herstad, the fan who invited me, and he said, 'Bruce, you've got to do the business'.

"I said, 'Yeah, I'll try to play well'," he [Herstad] replied 'No, you've got to finally lift the curse!' “So I peed in a bottle, poured it all down the posts and crossbar at both ends, and saved a penalty at the Anfield Road End. Then the Reds went on an undefeated run at Anfield and won the Premier League!" he stated.

The 64-year-old enjoyed a trophy laden stint at the Merseyside club between 1981 and 1994.

Some of the trophies he won at Liverpool include 3 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cup titles and 2 European Cup titles.

He made his international debut for Zimbabwe at the age of 19 and nearly helped the South African nation to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 1992.

Liverpool won the 2019/2020 Premier League title after amassing 99 points, the highest in the club’s rich history.

They went on a 44-game unbeaten streak before recently relegated side Watford FC spoiled their party. Senegalese international Ismaila Sarr ran the show in that match, scoring two goals in a span of six minutes.
