The 2022 FIFA World Cup slated for Qatar in less than a month's time is set to be one of the most secure tournaments ever staged in history.

For the first time, every movement of all the football fans who will grace the event will be monitored by high end surveillance cameras.

According to the organizers, more than 15,000 cameras have been strategically placed around the 8 stadiums that will host the competition.

"In Qatar, we have more video surveillance than almost any other place on Earth. If security sees someone jumping around in the crowd at a game, we can view it. We zoom in and hold that image very tightly.

“Every fan can be identified, no matter how many matches on one day. With 15,000 cameras, every nook and corner of every stadium is covered – you can see where a door is left open which is supposed to be locked," the tournament’s executive director Niyas Abdulrahiman was quoted by Daily Mirror.

The above cameras have the capability to closely monitor the faces of more than 120,000 people on a single screen.

This is the first time that the stadiums in a world cup tournament are connected by surveillance cameras.

The connectivity allows for video and audio management, safety and temperature control from a single room. Doha Sports City Complex is the control centre.

More than 85 operators will sit at the command centre and monitor the activities at the stadiums on a 24/7 basis.

The first match of the tournament will see hosts Qatar battle it out with South American nation Ecuador on Sunday, November 20.
