
Kenyan athletes Viola Chepngeno and Geoffrey Koech overcame a spirited fight from Ethiopians to emerge victorious at the 2022 Boston Half Marathon on Sunday evening, November 13.
Koech ran a tactical race to bag the men’s title in 1:02.02 ahead of Ethiopia’s Tsegay Kidanu and Morocco’s Zouhair Talbi.
Kidanu clocked 1:02.10 to cross the finishing line ahead of Talbi who registered a time of 1:02.15.

Shadrack Kimining and James Ngandu, who also hail from Kenya managed to secure top 10 finishes. The former came fifth while Ngandu was ranked 10th.
In the women’s category, Chepngeno outpaced Ethiopia’s Bosena Mulatie to clinch the women’s title in 1:10.40.
Mulatie on the other hand clocked 1:10.43 to settle for a second-place position ahead of compatriot Hiwot Gebrekidan who finished in 1:11.09.
Other Kenyan athletes Vibian Chepkirui and Cynthia Limo registered fourth and sixth-place finishes respectively.
The race was held for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic which disrupted most sporting activities in the world.
More than 9,000 athletes from over 95 countries braved the rain to participate in the event.
Elsewhere, Kenyan athletes, both men and women registered a clean sweep at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon in Malaysia with Moses Kiptoo and Shelmith Nyawira emerging victorious.
