Some journalists dream of hosting the Grammy Awards while others have ambitions of conducting face to face interviews with prominent political figures in the world.

For most sports journalists, their dream is to cover the biggest sporting tournament in the universe - the FIFA World Cup.

Some of the Kenyan sports journalists that were lucky to cover the 22nd edition of the global showpiece include Eric Njiru (HomeBoyz Radio), Charles Nyende (Nation), Carol Radull (Blogger) and Fred Arocho (Radio Jambo).

Arocho’s trip to the Gulf nation was sponsored by one of the local betting firms.

Although the popular radio presenter celebrated his birthday thousands of kilometres away from his loved ones, he could not miss the chance of gracing the tournament.

In an exclusive interview with TeamKenya.co.ke, Charles Nyende disclosed that the world football governing body FIFA has made their work easier by availing the necessary requirements.

“FIFA knows the value of the media. The main media centre at the Qatar National Conventional Centre has all the facilities that journalists need. A working desk, internet connectivity and virtual facilities to attend media conferences.

“All information at one place to enhance journalists to write their stories. Covering the world up is a great experience,” stated the Nation sports sub editor.

Apart from being in the same room with legendary footballers from different parts of the world, these journalists also got an opportunity to witness the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in action.

Njiru divulged that he managed to see Spain and Barcelona legend Carles Puyol for the first time in his life.

"Ever been to a FIFA World Cup on-site hospitality? Caught up with a group of Kenyans at the Al Thumama stadium in Qatar during the Belgium versus Morocco match.

"Guess I’ll also be watching 2010 winner Carles Puyol," read a statement from the journalist, who doubles up as chief rugby writer at Raga House.
