Omanyala Makes U-turn on Indoor Competitions

Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala confirmed he would be taking part in the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour in France.

Previously, Omanyala had indicated he would not be taking part in any indoor races however come February 3, 2023, the 100m champion will be in France for the 60m indoor races.

Speaking to TeamKenya.co.ke Omanyala revealed that the reason for the change of heart was attributed to his high fitness levels.

“We decided so because the body got into shape earlier than expected,” Omanyala revealed.

Omanyala who will be taking part in the Elite Indoor Track Meeting Miramas 2023, is among two other elite athletes confirmed for the tournament.

The 26-year-old athlete holds the African record in the 100m in 9:77 seconds as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion. 

“We are happy to announce the almost certain presence of 3 world stars of athletics.

"Indeed Kevin Mayer, Sasha Zhoya and Ferdinand Omanyala should be present on the track of the Miramas Métropole Stadium on February 3, 2023,” part of the statement from the race organisers read.

Kevin Mayer is a world record holder in the decathlon, double world champion and two-time Olympic vice-champion in the decathlon.

Sasha Zhoya won both the European and world junior title in 2021 over the 110m hurdles. He also set a junior world record in 110m hurdles.

At Miramas stadium in 2020, Zhoya beat the junior world record for the 60m hurdles in 7:34 seconds.
