President William Ruto met with President of World Athletics Sebastian Coe at State House, Nairobi on Thursday, January 5.

According to a statement on his Twitter page, Ruto pledged to partner with the World Athletics body in creating the right frameworks for athletes to thrive.

Kenya's president added that his government was determined to protect Kenya's reputation and heritage as an athletics powerhouse.

“We are ready to work together with athletes, their contacts, and partners to confront the doping menace and protect the integrity of our champions,” part of the statement read.

Ruto emphasised that the doping issue in Kenya will come to an end adding that the government would go the extra mile in protecting the integrity of athletics.

It was also announced that the Government has set aside Ksh3.7 billion to help in the fight against doping for the next five years.

Coe is on a week-long private tour in Kenya and has already met with Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei.

Kenya escaped a possible athletics ban after a rise in cases relating to the use of Prohibited Substance. 

World Athletics had a council meeting on November 30, with Sebastian Coe lauding the Kenyan government for the measures taken to address the doping situation in the country.

However, Kenya still remains in Category A under the World Athletics anti-doping rules.
