Kenyan football has received a major blow after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) failed to approve stadiums worthy of hosting any international game.

According to the latest list provided by CAF, Tanzania was the only East African country whose stadium was approved. This was the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

In 2021, Moi International Sports Center (MISC) Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium were barred from hosting international games.

The inspection, conducted by the African Football Federation of Kenyan Stadiums, was part of the assessment for the approval of the Fifa World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Reports alleged that CAF never sent representatives to inspect stadiums in Kenya.

After approving the proposal to have Kenya host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the government hoped that the stadiums would be cleared.

President William Ruto's hopes to boost Kenya's football were dented by the current situation, further pushing him back to the drawing board.

Kenyan football is returning to normalcy after a one-year FIFA ban was lifted in November 2022.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba recently asked CAF to reinstate Kenya to the next AFCON qualifiers.
